From blogger to board-certified lactation consultant
Suckled Sunnah began as my humble attempt to “make the change I wish to see in the world.” Islam has honored breastfeeding for over 1400 years, yet formula marketing and cultural change have eroded that legacy in our communities. I wanted Muslim families to have a resource grounded in Quran, hadith, scholarly works, and evidence-based medicine.
I sat for the IBCLC exam on the morning of Eid ul-Fitr
After years of blogging, I spent two years preparing for the board exam. On Eid morning we prayed, shared breakfast, and while my husband took our daughters to the Chicago lakefront in their sparkly dresses, I was in a downtown high-rise clicking away for three hours. Alhamdulillah, I passed, and got my dream job. Today I work as a hospital lactation consultant supporting new families every day: NICU babies, C-section recoveries, first latches. There is nothing like the face of a new mom when her baby finally latches.
